Salary For A Live-In Nanny (Caregiver)
Posted by admin on 05 Feb 2008 at 10:44 am | Tagged as: Live-In Nanny Salary
The salary range for nannies / caregivers has grown considerably in the last year due to higher demand for childcare / senior care.
As the economy grows, the demand for workers grows in all sectors and caregivers are no different than any.
The minimum wage set by the provincial government in B.C. has not changed in the last few years ($8 per hour), so it is quite rare to find good experienced nannies/caregivers accepting this rate.
Only a few recent arrivals to Canada, with no previous experience, are willing to work (as live-in) at this rate and their numbers are dwindling daily.
Since the market place is the main factor deciding salaries, you have to consider a more attractive compensation package for your nanny, if you want to engage a good care provider.
Beyond the hourly rate paid, you may have to consider some additional benefits like medical/dental insurance, covering transportation costs, extra holidays and others.
Be prepared to negotiate if you want the best care available for you loved ones.

Hello,
I am just getting ready to apply for nanny positions when I saw your notice. I would like to take the next step in this application process. I am very interested in this position and, if you do not mind, would like to ask you for some additional information. Is this a live in position and are you located in Vancouver?
Some information about me. I am forty-four years old. I have raised my two children and have taken care of elderly father for many years, hosted children for long periods from northern Manitoba, Sri Lanka and France. I have organized art workshops with children and local artists. I have volunteered in schools in Canada and Brazil. I am calm and soft spoken. I am very interested in the ideas of Maria Montessori and Rudolph Steiner in terms of education.
I hav also volunteered my time on organic farms, as a landscaper and have worked part time for a number of years in a greenhouse ( I can provide you with references). I think that the mixture of jobs would be ideal for me as it would give me the opportunity for physical work and a rewarding caregiving experience with children.Thank you for allowing me to offer this rather long winded explanation! I look forward to heaarng from you.
Benedicte
