Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day (Canadian French: Jour de l’Action de grâce), occurring on the second Monday in October, is an annual Canadian holiday to give thanks at the close of the harvest season. This year, Canadian Thanksgiving falls on Monday, Oct 11, 2010.
Canadian Thanksgiving has origins dating back to a 1578 homecoming feast for explorer Martin Frobisher when he returned to Newfoundland after his search for the Northwest Passage.

Traditionally, it is a time to gather with family,to recognize that the harvests of the land and sea, and the relationships that give meaning to our lives, are not simply there “for the taking”. They are things that in a sense have been given to us, and for which we must be grateful.
