Family Statement As parents we believe our role is to host our children to this world and teach him the following skills/tools to become well rounded, happy, healthy adults. Self esteem, responsibility, compassion & empathy, kindness & manners, interdependence, sense of humor, morals & strong values, healthy relationships and nurture special talents. We hope our nanny will have a significant influence in helping us shape our children into wonderful people. We are looking for someone to take direction from us on these issues and grow with us over the several years to come.
Job Description All duties relating to the exclusive care of Christie (5 year old girl) and Bill (3 month old boy) on an ‘as needed’ basis. These duties are to include but not limited to fulltime minding of the children in the home, all activities, learning and play, classes, meals, laundry, dressing, bath, feeding, naps, dishes/bottles and general tidying up after the children. Accompany Christie to and from school Monday Wednesday and Friday and to all of his scheduled activities. The first and consistent priority of each day should be Christie’s and the baby’s enjoyment, learning and safety in this world. May be required to help Christie with homework or projects in the future. Keeping track of snack day or any special requests from his school or other activities will be handled by yourself. General clean up of the house with a more focused effort on housekeeping on the mornings Christie is in school is required if Bill does not need attending to. A nutritious dinner each evening prepared for the family is also requested. We expect our nanny to read a few pertinent child-rearing books and to be self-motivated to learn all she can about the development and current philosophies on raising healthy, happy children.
General Guidelines and Expectations Developmental Stages • Basic knowledge of each stage and appropriate guidance throughout • Teach and augment what Christie is learning in school • Potty training in the future for Bill
Sleep • Christie may or may not require a short afternoon nap after school. The nap will be at your discretion. • Bedtime for Christie is 8:00 p.m. • Bill’s sleep schedule is after every feeding at this time but subject to change as he develops.
Eating • Good wholesome, creative, balanced meals to be made for Christie. One or two veggies with lunch and dinner along with a protein at each meal. Christie has organic whole milk warmed up first thing in the morning, mid-day and then again before bed. • Bill is solely breast-milk feed so bottle fed by nanny every 3 hours graduating into solids when appropriate. • No honey or nuts until 2 years old for the baby, including peanut butter • Minimal sweets/candies/chocolate
Discipline • Engage in dialogue using a calm but serious voice with the motive of understanding the children before being understood. Spanking, hitting or time outs are never acceptable. • If Christie is to be corrected while in amongst other people, please ask to speak to him alone and correct his behavior while keeping his pride by not reprimanding him in front of others. • All discipline to be discussed and agreed upon with the parents.
Activities • Play, play, play, we want the kids to be stimulated and enjoy a variety of fun activities • Balanced day and week of the following activities; school, outdoor play (when appropriate), reading, arts & crafts, baking and quiet self-directed play. • One hour of TV or video per day for Christie, no TV for the baby. Acceptable shows are Little Bear, Bob the Builder, Zaboomafoo, Timothy Goes to School, Mighty Machines & Daniel Cook. • Arrange play dates with other compatible children • Learn about the neighborhood and activities to do for children of his age
Grooming • Christie's teeth to be brushed after breakfast and before bed • Wash hands and face after play and before every meal • Diapers for Bill, change immediately • Wipe and dry well with each diaper change
General Knowledge • Learn sign language to communicate with the new baby • Inform Mom of all activities planned for the day • Recap with Mom and Dad what happened in the day • Affectionate and loving • Daily activity log to be filled out includes; types of meals, activities, naps, milk, bowel movements for the baby, etc.
Miscellaneous • The PT Cruiser is yours to use during the weekdays. The 4Runner is available as well. Care and cleaning of the Cruiser is your responsibility, including making arrangements to take the car in for general maintenance when appropriate. • Personal errands may be requested from time to time. • We ask that you speak to the action of the child not the child directly ie. Please do not use “good boy” even when encouraging a better approach might be to say “you are doing a great job of eating all your dinner” or whatever the action is.
