Hiring a live-in caregiver for elderly

We are currently looking for live in senior care giver for our mom who had a stroke approx 1 year ago.  She is currently wheelchair bound as the stroke caused left side weakness and needs assistance toileting, and dressing. We are looking for someone who would be a companion for my mom during the day and to assist her in her daily needs. We are on a short time frame and require someone for October 2009. What is the time frame required to hire a live in care aide?
